Our Story

A Legacy of Care & Compassion

Jesse’s House is more than just a shelter; it’s a home for adolescent girls in need of a safe, nurturing environment. Since our founding in 1998, we have served over 1,100 girls from across Georgia, each removed from their homes to ensure their safety and well-being. Our mission is to act as a counterbalance to the neglect and abuse these young women have endured. We do this by addressing their medical, dental, and mental health needs, as well as their educational, emotional, and social requirements. Beyond meeting these essential needs, we teach life skills necessary for independent living, plan enriching activities, and make sure that fun is part of their healing journey. At Jesse’s House, our goal is to provide a safe haven where girls can heal, receive support, and prepare for a future where they can positively contribute to society.

Our Niche

Expertise in Trauma Recovery

Since 2021, Jesse’s House has been licensed to serve girls requiring the highest level of care. While there are similarities between the girls we served during our first 23 years and those we now care for, some key differences set us apart. Notably, we are now equipped to serve girls who are confirmed survivors of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC). Over the past three years, it has become clear that we excel in helping girls who have been sexually abused or trafficked. This reputation has been recognized within the Child Welfare community, as we have achieved success where others have struggled in helping these residents find stability and re-enter a "normal" teenage life. Last year, our average length of stay was 15.8 months, with some girls staying as long as three years.

Another defining characteristic of Jesse’s House is our exceptional academic record. For the past eight years, we have maintained a 100% on-time high school graduation rate, and all our residents have been promoted to the next grade. This achievement is unparalleled in Georgia, where statistics show that only 37% of children in foster care graduate from high school, and often not on time. The academic challenges faced by our residents are significant; many arrive failing most, if not all, of their classes and are often more than a year behind. At Jesse’s House, we make it a priority to help these girls catch up in school and gain confidence as students, ensuring they leave us with the education and self-assurance needed to succeed.
